Rochester Business Journal

We subcribe to the Rochester Business Journal both in paper and online. When you come into the library, you can search the paper online.  We also have a copy of the Book of Lists (printed annually) and you can see the current one by asking at the reference desk. The book of lists is put out by the Rochester Business Journal and is a compilation of the lists that appear weekly in the paper and it also contains other demographic information. The division has also put together an index of companies that appeared in the Rochester Business Journal.

Periodical

Our division subscribes to several different types of magazines and journals on different subjects. Better Buys for Business is useful in the selection and purchase of office equipment: copiers, printers, fax machines, and scanning systems.  Profiles of vendors are given and profiles of the products which includes a summary with the pro’s and con’s of their performance, where to buy the machine and side by side specs and prices.

Opposing Viewpoints

Opposing Viewpoints is a great database to use when you are writing a research paper on a popular topic such as abortion, racism, terrorism etc.  You can access the database from home with your library card, by clicking on “Magazines & Databases” on the left hand menu bar. The database has many different topics and provides insights into both sides of an issue.

Newspaper Clippings

We have a clippings file of local corporations that include current news articles.  We have the big corporations like Xerox, Kodak, Paychex etc, but we also have files for some of the lesser known businesses. We also clip articles that cover our subject matters: i.e. elections, taxation, schools, crime. This can be helpful if you are doing a paper and your focus is Rochester.

Stock Quotes

It is tax season and we provide stock quotes at the library. You can use Yahoo Finance, http://finance.yahoo.com/ to find current quotes, but many of the older stock quotes can be looked up in our Standard & Poors Daily Stock Price Record. If you have the exact name of the stock and the ticker symbol that is helpful. We can provide you with the following information: the high, low and close.
